Children's Eye Care
Askew Eyewear in Hackney recommends that you start having your child's eyesight tested by the age of four.
Good eyesight is incredibly important to your child's development, particularly before they enter formal education. Certain developmental eye conditions such as amblyopia (a lazy eye) can have a much better long term outcome if detected and treated early.

Spotting the signs
Spotting signs of eye problems is important too. Children can have difficulty expressing problems they have with eyesight, or might not even know there is a problem at all. Look out for:
Rubbing eyes regularly
Being clumsy
Struggling with games, particularly ball games
Reading problems - having the book very close, or losing their way
Complaints of headaches or eye strain
Eyes not pointing in the same direction

Myopia Control Contact Lenses
At Askew, we are now able to offer a relatively new form of treatment called myopia control. This is done with an innovative type of soft contact lens.
Evidence shows these contact lenses can reduce the level of myopia that a child may progress to. For more details please call to speak to our staff or book your child in for Myopia Control Consultation (fees apply).
The percentage of parents who said their child has never had an eye test according to a 2013 study by the College of Optometrists
Common Child Eye Problems
We can detect many different problems during the eye test including squints, myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), astigmatism, lazy eye, cataracts and colour-blindness. We may also pick up on underlying problems such as dyslexia where we will conduct a further examination for you.
